Chlorine contents of feed coal collected from 14 coal-fired power plants in Guizhou Province were analyzed by a method of Eschka fusion sample and potassium thiocyanate titration. The results showed that the chlorine content of feed coal ranged from 86 to 499 mg /kg, with an average value of (207 ± 99) mg/kg, which was equivalent to the national value. The chlorine content in feed coal had a significant positive correlation with volatile matter, suggesting that it mainly existed in the organic phase. The correlation between chlorine and ash yield, sulfur and mercury in coal was not significant. The low chlorine content in coal had little impact on boiler corrosion, but it would inhibit the volatilization of heavy metals and was not conducive to the oxidation of zero-valent mercury in flue gas.
