Academician of the Environmental and Light Textile Engineering Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and professor at the University of Science and Technology of China. He has received the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2006, was selected for the Ministry of Science and Technology Talent Program in 2017, and led innovation teams for the Ministry of Education in 2012 and for the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2016, as well as the National Natural Science Foundation of China Innovation Group in 2018. Since 2014, he has been continuously listed as an internationally highly cited scholar in the environmental field by Elsevier and as a highly cited scientist in cross-disciplinary areas by Clarivate Analytics (Web of Science). He has conducted fundamental research, technology development, and practical applications in water pollution control, leading multiple projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, major national science and technology special projects, and national 863 projects. He has developed several wastewater treatment technologies, holding over 60 authorized invention patents. As the corresponding or first author, he has published over 700 SCI papers, including in journals like Nature, Nature sub-journals, PNAS, Environmental Science & Technology, and Water Research, with over 40,000 citations. His work has earned him a National Natural Science Award (Second Prize) and a National Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Prize), as well as six first prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels in science and technology/natural science.
